How OCR PDF works

OCR PDF looks at a scanned page and guesses the letters. Pi2PDF.com aims at printed English. The first run may download a language model, which is a library, not your document.

If you can already select the text, use PDF to Text instead. OCR on a digital letter only adds mistakes.

Steps

  1. Drop a scan or a photo of a printed page.
  2. Run OCR and wait for the model if this is the first time.
  3. Read the result, especially names and numbers.
  4. Keep the scan. OCR is a draft.

Limits

Handwriting, stamps over text, glare, and crooked photos will come out wrong. This is not a notary.

English print, eight pages

OCR loads an English Tesseract model in the page. The first visit may download that model. Your document is not the thing being downloaded. The tool stops after 8 pages.

Proofread numbers, names, and headings. Handwriting and skewed photos are out of scope. If the PDF already has selectable text, use PDF to Text instead.
