How PDF to Word works

PDF to Word turns a PDF into an editable .docx file in this tab. Use it when you need to fix a paragraph, reuse a heading, or paste text into a document you already write in Word.

The converter reads the text layer that is already in the PDF. A scan that is only a picture of a page will not become clean paragraphs until you run OCR first.

Steps

  1. Open PDF to Word and drop one PDF.
  2. Wait until the page finishes reading the file in this tab.
  3. Download the .docx and open it in Word or Google Docs.
  4. Check headings, tables, and line breaks before you send the file on.

Limits

Complex magazine layouts, odd fonts, and fillable government forms will not match the original PDF. This is not Adobe Acrobat.

Check the Word file before you send it

The .docx is built from text the PDF already contains. Open it and look at the first heading, a table, and the last paragraph. Line breaks often land as extra empty lines.

If the source is a scan, run OCR first or you will get an almost empty document. This will not recreate text boxes, columns, or a fillable form.
