How PDF to Text works

PDF to Text copies the text layer into a plain .txt file. Use it when you want the words and do not care about columns, fonts, or pictures.

If you cannot select text in a normal PDF reader, this tool has nothing to copy. Run OCR on that scan first.

Steps

  1. Drop a PDF with selectable text.
  2. Download the .txt file.
  3. Search for a name or invoice number to confirm the extract.
  4. Expect reading order to follow the PDF, which may not match visual columns.

Limits

Headers, footers, and sidebars often mix into the same stream. This is an extract, not a layout copy.

Empty output means there was no text layer

If you can drag across the words in a normal PDF viewer, this tool can usually copy them. If the page is only a photo, the text file will be short or blank.

Run OCR for printed English, then come back. Do not expect columns to stay in a neat table. This is a text dump.
