How Password protect PDF works

Password protect PDF asks for a password before the file opens. You choose the password here, and this site never stores it.

Write the password down in your own notes. There is no recovery email, because the password never leaves this tab.

Steps

1. Drop the PDF.
2. Type the password twice. It must be at least 4 characters.
3. Download the locked file.
4. Open it once and confirm the prompt appears.

Limits

A password is not the same as redaction. The bytes are still in the file for anyone who has the password.

A password we never see

Use at least 4 characters. The PDF is encrypted in this tab with the password you type. It is not sent to Pi2PDF, and there is no reset.

Store the password yourself before you close the tab. Other tools on this site cannot open the locked file until you unlock it.
